Ensuring continuous power traction for high-speed rail, UV Arc Sensors play a critical role in monitoring the pantograph–catenary interface in electrified railway networks by detecting ultraviolet emissions from arcing events caused by contact loss, wire irregularities, or ice accumulation. Mounted on the train roof, these solar-blind UV sensors accurately measure the intensity and duration of electrical arcs in real time, even in broad daylight, enabling rail operators to assess the quality of current collection during high-speed and freight operations.

By identifying early defects in catenary components such as droppers, steady arms, and registration pipes, UV Arc Sensors support Condition-Based Maintenance (CBM), reduce manual inspections, prevent wire-snapping and entanglement accidents, and help ensure compliance with international railway standards such as EN 50317, thereby improving overall railway safety and reliability.
