The SG01S-18 is a broadband ultraviolet photodiode built on a silicon carbide (SiC) chip, packaged in a TO-18 hermetically sealed metal housing (one isolated pin, one case pin). It features an active area of 0.06 mm² and offers a spectral sensitivity covering UVA, UVB, and UVC wavelengths (approx. 221 nm to 358 nm) with peak responsivity near ~280 nm. At an irradiation of 10 mW/cm² around the peak wavelength, it delivers a photocurrent of ~960 nA. The SG01S-18 acts as a UV sensor that converts ultraviolet light into an electrical current (photocurrent). Because it’s based on SiC (silicon carbide), it exhibits high resistance to radiation damage, near-zero sensitivity to visible light (“visible-blindness”), and very low dark current (in the femtoampere range). This enables detection of weak UV signals with minimal noise. The small 0.06 mm² active area restricts the amount of photon capture, making it suitable for moderate to high irradiance conditions. Packaged in a robust TO-18 metal can, the sensor is suitable for demanding environmental conditions including higher temperatures and UV dose.
